Macro and Micro Do Different Jobs.
MACRONUTRIENTS
Reserved Aquatics Macro
Supplies nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, nutrients plants use in comparatively large amounts as they grow.
MICRONUTRIENTS
Reserved Aquatics Micro
Supplies iron and other trace nutrients required in smaller quantities for normal plant growth and metabolic processes.
DON'T JUST READ THE BOTTLE
Read the Aquarium.
Two planted tanks of the same size can have very different nutrient demand. A lightly planted low-light aquarium does not consume nutrients the same way a densely planted tank under stronger lighting does.
Plant Mass
More actively growing plant tissue generally means more nutrient demand.
Lighting
Stronger or longer lighting can drive greater growth, provided the other requirements for growth are available.
Livestock & Feeding
Fish food and livestock waste also contribute nutrients to an aquarium.
Growth & Algae
Watch trends over time. Plant health, growth rate and algae can tell you more than blindly increasing a dose.
More fertilizer is not automatically better fertilizer.
BELOW THE SUBSTRATE
Some Plants Want More Than Water-Column Fertilizer.
