Reserved Aquatics grew from a genuine obsession with freshwater aquariums, planted tanks, shrimp, unusual livestock, and the details that turn a tank into something worth keeping.
Our Story
It started with the tanks.
Like a lot of aquarium keepers, it began with one tank and quickly became something much bigger. More tanks meant more plants, more livestock, more experimentation, and a deeper interest in what actually makes an aquarium successful.
For Preston, shrimp breeding became the part of the hobby that really took hold. Maintaining colonies meant paying attention to water stability, feeding, genetics, filtration, plant growth, biofilm, selection, and what happened across repeated generations.
Over time, keeping aquariums became more than a hobby. The same interest expanded into healthier livestock, better planted systems, practical aquarium products, dependable equipment, setup work, maintenance, and helping other aquarists solve problems.
Offer aquarium keepers worthwhile livestock, plants, products, and knowledgeable service without losing the personal attention that made the hobby worth pursuing in the first place.
What We Reserve
The name is supposed to mean something.
Reserved Aquatics reflects the way we approach the hobby: thoughtfully, selectively, and with an emphasis on quality over simply having more things to sell.
Healthy animals come first.
We focus on livestock worth keeping, with health and condition carrying more weight than maintaining the largest possible inventory.
The aquarium matters after the sale.
What we recommend is shaped by hands-on aquarium experience, not just a product description or wholesaler catalog.
Fewer worthwhile options beat filler.
Not everything needs to make it into the inventory. Quality is easier to protect when volume is not the only goal.
Behind the Business
The aquariums come first.
RA is built around real aquariums, real livestock, and the day-to-day work of keeping freshwater systems healthy, stable, and worth looking at.
Keep the animal first.
Livestock is watched as livestock, not inventory. Health, behavior, condition, breeding, compatibility, and how an animal actually performs in an aquarium matter more than having the longest stock list.
The Real Work
A lot of aquarium work is not photogenic.
The finished tank is only the visible part. Most of the work happens before the photo.

Parameters often show what a system is doing before the livestock can.

Filters still need maintenance no matter how good the aquarium looks.

Healthy plant growth usually creates more trimming and propagation work.

Maintaining a line means paying attention to what each generation produces.

The order still needs to leave us organized, protected, and ready for handoff.

Hard-water spots and algae do not care whether the tank belongs to a business.

Some of what we sell starts on our own workbench.
Reserved Aquatics develops and prepares its plant nutrition products in-house. That includes the fertilizer itself, bottling, labels, and the practical dosing approach that goes with it.
That does not mean everything RA sells is manufactured here. It means the products we do make stay close enough to the operation that we know exactly what they are, how they are prepared, and how they are intended to be used.
Local Roots
Based in Broken Arrow. Built for aquarists beyond it.
Reserved Aquatics is a home-based aquarium business in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, serving hobbyists throughout the Tulsa area and beyond.
Local customers can shop livestock, plants, aquarium supplies, and arrange aquarium services while getting direct help that is difficult to replicate through a large impersonal retailer.
Operating from a working fishroom instead of a conventional sales floor keeps the business close to the systems themselves. Local pickup is arranged by appointment.

Different backgrounds and different strengths, but the same expectation: healthy livestock, useful information, and taking care of the customer should come before simply moving inventory.
Preston Thomas
My interest in aquatics started with breeding Neocaridina shrimp. As I got deeper into maintaining colonies, the interest naturally expanded into planted tanks, fish, and eventually the larger freshwater hobby. Shrimp breeding is still where a lot of that passion lives today.
I started Reserved Aquatics because I wanted to provide other hobbyists with the quality I wish had been easier to find when I was getting started. Healthy livestock matters more to me than having the biggest inventory, and I would rather tell someone a fish is wrong for their tank than make a sale that does not make sense.
As the business grows, I want that standard to stay recognizable. When someone buys from Reserved Aquatics, I want them to know that the condition of the livestock, the quality of the product, and the long-term aquarium came before simply getting the transaction finished.
Christian Andersen
Christian was originally a neighbor who took an interest in what was being built with Reserved Aquatics. He shared the idea that buying fish should be an exciting experience for a family, not something that ends a few days later with unhealthy livestock and disappointment.
He is a family man himself, and that perspective carries into how he looks at the business. For Christian, the aquarium hobby is something that can bring people together, give kids something to become curious about, and turn an ordinary tank into something a family genuinely enjoys maintaining together.
That shared outlook eventually led to him becoming part of Reserved Aquatics. He contributes to breeding and developing shrimp varieties, networking within the aquarium community, product development, and the business side of the operation.
Christian is also a U.S. Army veteran who served as a 12B Combat Engineer. He brings that experience, along with his perspective as a husband and father, to how Reserved Aquatics plans, develops, and grows without losing the standards that made the business worth building in the first place.
Our Standard
Different strengths. Same priorities.
Reserved Aquatics is built around healthy livestock, exceptional quality, useful information, and customers over margins. Growth matters, but not enough to trade away the reasons the business exists.
What We Won't Pretend
We are not trying to look bigger than we are.
Trust is easier to keep when the business is willing to be accurate about what it has, what it knows, and what an aquarium actually needs.
Not every fish is always available.
We would rather show a smaller real inventory than make the store look full with livestock that is not actually here.
Not every plant looks identical.
Growth, coloration, trimming, and adaptation naturally change the appearance of live plants.
Not every tank needs another bottle.
Sometimes the correct recommendation is maintenance, stocking, light, filtration, patience, or simply leaving the aquarium alone.
Not every problem has an instant fix.
Biology takes time. Useful advice has to account for that even when waiting is not the exciting answer.
